Telling you the Indian story so that you can narrate the tales to your friends, families, and future generations

It’s been a while, hasn’t it? So, just as your OTT platforms refresh your memory when they return with a new season — let us recap the journey of The Indian Trumpet for you. In the summer of 2013, this quarterly digital magazine that captures India’s colour, culture, and chaos — that the Indian expats crave and miss — came alive.

Soon, many joined hands to build a community, and not just the magazine. This winter (November 2023), the magazine is back after a nap with The Pani Puri Edition, which is a blend of observations and anecdotes featuring places and people from Dubai and beyond. From then until now, The Indian Trumpet celebrated the quirks of being an Indian — from the chai to pickles, the middle-class habits to childhood games, and more.

The magazine also took a moment to get angry when it felt the country had wronged its people. “Yes, we’re back (in the times) when many magazines run by large publishing groups have shut shop.

We’re here to tell you the Indian story and hope you can narrate the tales to your friends, families, and future generations,” said Purva Grover, founder-editor of The Indian Trumpet.

Why are we doing this? Strangely enough, that question doesn’t bother any of the Trumpet Blowers.

Other than being supported by many equally insane individuals, we still haven’t lost faith in the power of storytelling and journalism as we once knew it.

The ‘now’stalgic team at The Indian Trumpet includes names such as Michael Gomes as Features Head, a seasoned journalist who was earlier with a UAE national paper; features writers such as Samina Amoji, from Muscat and Vishal Bheero from Mauritius. Dolly Goel, a senior designer with experience across publishing platforms, has joined as the Art Director.

Various contributors from across the globe also add to the content’s richness. “We’re waking up in a different world — where reading magazines is getting labelled as an archaic activity; stories have a shelf life of 24 hours, and content for consumption is more than what we can handle and available across more mediums than one can imagine.

Yet, we’ve decided to blow the Trumpet louder,” shared Team Trumpet Blowers. The magazine was put on hold in November 2017 as the team nurtured stories in other formats on the portal. Just as in its previous avatar, it is now once again available complementary for its readers on the portal, theindiantrumpet.com, where both the flip-through PDF version of the magazine and the online versions of the stories can be browsed through

MAYA  Sparks Speculation Over The Matrix Star Hugo Weaving’s Role In The Expansive Universe

Visionary auteur Anand Gandhi (TumbbadShip of Theseus) and celebrated game designer Zain Memon (SHASN) have unveiled their ambitious new project: MAYA Universe – an epic sci-fi fantasy that spans novels, board games, films, graphic novels, and more.

The project’s announcement trailer, released exclusively on IGN, has already generated significant buzz, hype, and conversation online. The trailer offers audiences the first glimpse into MAYA – a new mythology for the 21st century, exploring themes of algorithmic manipulation and digital age anxiety.

Hugo Weaving Joins the Universe

The trailer features the unmistakable voice of Hugo Weaving, the acclaimed actor known for his iconic roles as Agent Smith in The Matrix trilogy and Elrond in The Lord of the Rings series. Weaving’s distinctive narration has sparked widespread speculation about his deeper involvement in the expanding universe.

“Hugo Weaving has been so integral in shaping the sci-fi and fantasy pop culture of our times, and we’ve been huge admirers of his filmography. It is a privilege to have him be a part of the MAYA Narrative Universe,” Zain mentioned.

“Hugo’s voice brings an incredible gravitas to our world,” said Gandhi“His participation represents the kind of cross-border collaboration that MAYA is built on.”

MAYA presents a richly crafted universe that blends science fiction with philosophical inquiry, examining how our futures are invisibly shaped by algorithmic forces. Audiences will get to experience this modern mythology across multiple storytelling formats and platforms.

This is the first time Anand and Zain are co-creating a project together. The duo has previously collaborated on multiple critically acclaimed endeavours that pushed creative boundaries in Indian cinema and gaming.

What’s Next

While details about Weaving’s full involvement remain under wraps, the creative team promises that the trailer is just the beginning of a much larger storytelling experience that will unfold across multiple media formats over the coming months.

ICAI Drives Indian Railways’ Accounting Reforms with Environmental Sustainability

Indian Railways, the fourth largest railway network in the world after the United States, Russia and China, is undertaking several initiatives towards Accounting Reforms in line with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. In its journey of accounting reforms, the Indian Railways had initiated exercise of preparationofits Accrual Based Financial Statements in 2014, marking a major shift towards enhanced financial transparency and accountability.  Since the inception of this initiative, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and its Accounting Research Foundation (ICAI ARF) has played a pivotal role in supporting these reforms.

ICAI ARF has been instrumental in guiding Indian Railways through the migration to an accrual-based accounting system. ICAI ARF has successfully prepared the Accrual Based Financial Statements for all Zonal Railways and Production Units from the financial year 2015-16 to 2022-23.

On December 19, 2024, during an event held in New Delhi, ICAI ARF submitted Accrual Based Financial Statements of Indian Railways for the financial year 2022-23 to the officials of Indian Railways.  The event was graced by the presence of Ms. Nirupma Kumar, I.R.A.S, Chief Administrative Officer, Accounting Reform (CAO/A/R), Mr. Rohit Parmar, Chief Project Manager (CPM), Accounting Reforms and team of CAO/AR cell along with CA. Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal, President ICAI and Chairman ICAI ARF accompanied by Council Members of ICAI and team of ICAI ARF.

On this occasion Ms. Nirupma Kumar, CAO/AR appreciated the work done by ICAI ARF and said, “It will be a milestone in the history of Government of India that accrual based financial statements has been prepared for a ministry. Indian Railways is the first Ministry to take this initiative at entire ministry level and has undertaken various step towards environmental Sustainability, the same has been reflected for the first time in the accrual based financial statements for Financial Year 2022-23”

Ms. Nirupma also informed that the Indian Railways in collaboration with the ICAI ARF has initiated to develop Transaction Based Accrual Accounting System to facilitate the preparation of financial statements for the financial year 2023-24 onwards including the initiatives being undertaken by Indian Railways towards Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals.

During this event CA. Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal, President, ICAI, said, “Indian Railways partnership with ICAI ARF since 2014 has been a cornerstone in its journey towards accrual accounting, starting with successful pilot studies and evolving into a system-wide transformation.  It is a matter of pride for the ICAI and ICAI ARF to submit the Accrual Based Financial Statements of Indian Railways for the financial year 2022-23. I appreciate Indian Railways for raising the bar of financial statements and incorporating sustainability reporting in the financial statement. This initiative of Indian Railways would encourage other Government organisations/entities to adopt accrual accounting by recognising the benefits of such accounting.

Further, President ICAI also suggested Indian Railways should also consider the physical verification of their assets. The journey of partnership of ICAI ARF with Indian Railways is long lasting. For the financial year 2023-24, the ICAI ARF is geared up for preparation of Accrual Based Financial Statements which are to be prepared from the transactional data.
